Frankenstein is considered one of the first science fiction novels ever published. It was originally published anonymously by Mary Shelley in 1818, later edited and republished by her in 1831.
It follows a young man creating life from scratch by stitching corpse parts together... And the aftermath of him abandoning said creation. It's one of the first science fiction horror novels ever published.

For anyone saying that the creature is just misunderstood and was secretly good or something: THE CREATURE FUCKING KILLED A CHILD!!!
Granted, Victor also sucks — way more than I anticipated before reading it, he let Justine get executed — but people shouldn't negate the fact that both of them are victims... And also horrible people. They're like Max Jagerman; they're victims, but still did irredeemable shit, and I don't think enough people bring that up.
I fucking love this stupid book!!! I know it's VERY far from perfect; the islamophobia, misogyny, ableism, etc. aren't excusable, but it's still fantastic as a product of its time and Mary Shelley did go on to improve at some of those topics. Perdita from The Last Man, I love you and you deserve way better than Lord Byron— I mean Lord Raymond.
